In a rolling process, a medical school considers applications and may make decisions during the cycle. This does not mean admission is simply first come, first served or that every school follows the same schedule.
Distinguish Submission from Completion
Submitting a primary application may be only one stage. Verification, secondary applications, required scores, references, and other materials can affect when a school considers a file complete. Track the status in the relevant systems.
Use the School’s Current Timeline
Check the school’s application, completion, interview, and decision dates. The AAMC application timeline provides general planning context, but it does not replace individual school policies.
Prepare Early Without Sacrificing Accuracy
Organize records and references in advance so you can submit a complete, carefully checked application within the appropriate window. Rushing an inaccurate application is not a useful strategy. Check how corrections or later updates are handled.
Avoid Universal Response Predictions
Programs review applications differently, and an applicant may wait a substantial period for a decision. Do not interpret another person’s invitation or a fixed number of weeks without news as a definite outcome. Follow any published inquiry policy.
Manage Offers and Other Commitments
Read the applicable application-service and school rules about accepting offers, holding places, deposits, and withdrawing. Record the relevant deadlines and seek clarification when necessary. Keep your communications accurate and timely.
