An MPH may fit an interest in public health, but it should be evaluated as a degree with its own purpose. It is not a universal remedy for a medical school application.

Identify the public-health questions, skills, or work you want to pursue. Compare curriculum and practical learning opportunities with those goals.

Check Admission and Program Requirements

Review prerequisites, degree structure, assessment, time commitment, and any experience requirements. Do not assume MPH programs are uniformly easy to enter or academically undemanding.

Separate Medical School Requirements

Confirm whether particular courses satisfy your target medical schools’ prerequisites and how graduate study is considered. Do not assume a strong MPH record replaces undergraduate grades or predicts medical-school performance.

Compare Costs and Alternatives

Evaluate tuition, living costs, funding, opportunity cost, and other routes to the skills you seek. Review the degree’s value for your goals even if you do not later enter medical school.

Describe the Decision Clearly

If you pursue the degree, explain the specific learning and work it enabled. Use accurate examples and avoid claiming that the credential guarantees an admissions advantage.
