How to Compare Physician Assistant Programs

The best PA program for you depends on eligibility, training, practical fit, and reliable outcomes. An undated ranking or unexplained score is not enough to choose a school.

Confirm Accreditation and Eligibility

Check the program’s current accreditation status and admission requirements through official sources. Review prerequisites, required experience, testing, and deadlines before comparing other features.

Read Outcomes Carefully

Use the program’s published graduation, attrition, and PANCE results. Check the cohort, year, first-time versus overall pass rate, and any missing data. NCCPA explains its annually updated PANCE reports; compare figures that measure the same thing.

Compare the Training Experience

Research curriculum, clinical-placement arrangements, faculty support, and opportunities related to your interests. Ask how students are supported when a placement or academic difficulty occurs.

Calculate Practical Costs

Compare full published costs, housing, travel to placements, and available aid. Confirm the actual campus location and schedule. Consider whether the program is workable alongside your personal responsibilities.

Build Your Own Comparison

Keep a dated table of verified information and unresolved questions. A published ranking may be one reference, but it should not replace eligibility checks, direct program research, or an assessment of your priorities.
